damselsdelight.jpgDamsel's Delight12 viewsI caught this damselfly heading for a water lily blossom on Spring Pond in the McLean game refuge the other day and thought it made a nice image despite some extraneous matter in the water. I'm considering editing some of the distracting material out - opinions?3 commentsEd Hodgson07/02/16 at 20:00Vern Wells: Nice shot, Ed. I would either crop off or clone o...

takeflight.jpgTaking Flight12 viewsI took my Mom out for a short ride yesterday and looped past Simsbury airport along the way. This biplane was on the runway as we got there, so we pulled over to watch it take off. Timing is everything. I was interested to see the loss in clarity here resulting (I think) from shooting through the turbulent prop wash from the plane - there's a distinctive waviness along the wings of the plane when I look closely.2 commentsEd Hodgson07/01/16 at 14:57Ed Hodgson: Thanks for the suggestion, Jay. Incognito.jpgIncognito11 viewsDoes anyone recognize this handsome fellow? i was walking in the McLean refuge near spring pond Sunday when I spotted him taking his ease on a bridge. he caught my eye because his leg span was easily 4-6 inches. The closest I find searching on line is a dark fishing spider, but the abdominal markings are all wrong.4 commentsEd Hodgson07/01/16 at 10:30Ed Hodgson: I found quite a bit on line about similar spiders ...

BisselBrookJune.jpgBissel Brook in June10 viewsWhen I stopped here the other day as i occasionally do, extreme contrast between the sunlit woods above the falls and the shaded area below demanded HDR to create a decent image so I thought it would be worth a try. This is the result I like best so far. Comments and suggestions are invited. 6 commentsEd Hodgson06/19/16 at 23:13Vern Wells: I doubt there's anything I can add to help yo...

Gunn_Brook_Falls_1.jpg9 viewsMy wife and I were bored on Memorial Day and went looking for waterfalls to photograph since is was cloudy. I picked this one from a book of New England Waterfalls in MA. It took a little to find it but once we did I thought it was worth the drive. The waterfall is a little ways down a dirt road exactly where the book says it would be. After about 30 minutes of shooting a man comes walking through the woods and wanted to know if we knew we were trespassing on private property.... 3 commentsJay Harder05/31/16 at 18:10Jay Harder: He game me permission to come back as we only phot...
