    First Bloodroot of the season

These bloodroot caught me by surprise as I was cleaning up in the gardens yesterday. I really wasn't expecting to see any in our yard this soon.

I was pleasantly surprised the other day to see my backyard white round-lobed hepatica fully flowered. A couple bloodroot were nearly out. Can't say I've ever seen either in flower so early. But next week's temps should slow down the progression big time.

It certainly was looking like a very early spring until this morning's little set back hit us. The promise of more backsliding in the days ahead has reminded me pretty forcefully that we are still in New England after all.
